In einer Welt, in der Götter von den Menschen ernährt wurden, wird ein Kind darauf trainiert, im Krieg zu kämpfen und mit seinem Leben den Sonnengott zu erhalten. „Xochiyaoyotl“ – übersetzt „Blumenkriege“ – erinnert an die Rituale aztekischer Kampfkunstpraktiken, die durch die spanische Eroberung ausgelöscht wurden. Wir können uns nur noch vorstellen, wie diese Kampftechnik aussah, mit der jede Nacht aufs Neue der Glauben an einen Morgen herausgefordert wurde. David Camargo, Amauta García und Maximiliano Soto Mayorga entwickeln ein Musiktheater zwischen Mythos und Erinnerung, in dem Musik, Raum und Performance aus der Präsenz musikalischer Körper in kämpfenden Posen hervorgehen.

„Xochiyaoyotl“ ist das Gewinnerprojekt des OPEN CALLS der Münchener Biennale zum Thema „Martial Arts“. Die Produktion wurde aus 85 Einreichungen von einer internationalen Jury, bestehend aus Carola Bauckholt, Kenny Savelson, Vigdís Jakobsdóttir, Martin Minarik, Sarah Maria Sun, Óscar Escudero und Toshiki Okada ausgewählt.

Die Uraufführung von „Xochiyaoyotl” am 13.05.2026 wird als Livestream digital für alle übertragen!

In a world where gods were fed by humans, a child is trained to fight in war and preserve the sun god with his life. “Xochiyaoyotl“, translated as ‘flower wars’, recalls rituals of Aztec martial arts that was wiped out by the Spanish conquest. We can only imagine what this combat – that challenged the belief in tomorrow every night anew – looked like. David Camargo, Amauta García and Maximiliano Soto Mayorga develop a music theatre piece that lies between myth and memory, in which music, space and performance emerge from the physicality of the combatants.

“Xochiyaoyotl” is the winner of the OPEN CALL of the Münchener Biennale on the theme of “martial arts”. Chosen from among 85 submissions, the production was selected by an international jury consisting of Carola Bauckholt, Kenny Savelson, Vigdís Jakobsdóttir, Martin Minarik, Sarah Maria Sun, Óscar Escudero and Toshiki Okada.
